PCA Ruling

It is reported that the Pubs Code Adjudicator (PCA) has agreed terms of the settlement with Star Pubs and Bars (part of Heineken) as to the extent of the fine payable.

The fine was imposed in 2020 following the PCA report that Star Pubs and Bars had breached the Pub Code and has been subject to a High Court challenge.

The agreed terms sees the fine drop from £2 million to £1.25 million along with an agreement to comply and implement the 8 findings from the report so as to improving processes and governance, and overall compliance with the pubs code.

When the Pub Code was launched one of the concerns was that the Code would have no bite- even with the agreed reduction of the fine this clearly shows that the Code has an impact.

Law correct at the date of publication.
